You are invited to stay and browse through my stream. Here’s a quick index to my little corner of Flickr:
Automobile Photographs: This is a very large collection of images whose primary, but not exclusive, focus is on American automotive classics. Images are organized by decade, by manufacturer, and by topics (such as convertibles, station wagons, muscle cars, etc.)
Central Illinois (except Springfield): Central Illinois (except Springfield): Photos relating to the middle section of the "Land of Lincoln" (except for the Capital City of Springfield) may be found in this collection. Every city and town I’ve photographed is contained within its own set, and rural (as in "countryside") photographs are grouped by county.
Springfield, Illinois: All of my photographs of Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Sites are in this collection. For the City of Springfield, there are separate sets for the Capitol Complex, Downtown (including the Old State Capitol), Neighborhoods, Parks, Illinois State Fairgrounds and more. Photographs of Lincoln sites include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Lincoln Tomb, and so on. Also in the Lincoln "All About Abe" (Set) are a few Lincoln sites not located in Springfield.
The Illinois State Fair: My collection of photographs of the Illinois State Fair. The fair offers something for everyone. Grab a corn dog and lemon shake-up, and come take a look!
Beyond Central Illinois: Other locales in the United States and Canada including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.
In addition to my location-based sets, here are links to some "topical" collections and sets I’ve put together:
Barbers & Barber Shops: Traditional barbers and barber shops are on the endangered species list. But there are still plenty to be found if you go looking for them.
Almost Everything Else. Check It Out!!!: Included topics range from man’s first walk on the moon to small town schools and churches, and from Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers (our favorite breed) to things that are abandoned, neglected, weathered, or rusty.

Cheap ways to increase the value of your home
With today’s housing market, a house in bad repair will bring low offers. Luckily there are tricks that can be used to increase the value and keep prospective buyers happy. You do not have to spend a lot of money to do so. Even if you do not want to to sell your home these ideas make a great home makeover.
Mailbox
This is often the first thing a buyer will see at your home. First impressions are important. Paint the post with some left over house paint. Trim paint works best for this. The mailbox will look like new if you paint it with spray paint. Buy some new numbers for the front.
Front Yard
A messy front yard will make it look smaller than it is. Clean up should include trimming back overgrown bushes and shrubs. Clear away the bottom branches 8 to 12 inches up from the ground. This open view of the trunk will give a roomy look. A bag or two of mulch will transforms your front yard and gives a manicured look. A travel area can also be created with mulch and flat stones. To save a some money go to a quarry wholesale outlet. There you can buy something like “Field Stone”. This is an economical type of stone that is flat. It is also durable enough for walkways.
Pressure washing the driveway and sidewalks is a must. Remove any weeds or grass that has grown up into the cracks before you start. To make the driveway look like new seal it. For you can buy a five gallon pail of asphalt driveway sealer. This can be rolled on with a paint roller with a long handle.
House Exterior
Look for loose shingles and debris that has gathered in the roof valleys. Often loose shingles can be easily repaired with a tube of roofing tar that can be applied like caulking. The leaf debris should be swept off. This is the kind of maintenance that will add years of life to your roof. While you are up on the roof clean the drip edges. This is the metal piece along the edge of the roof. Clean it with a bleach/water mixture. This will kill any mold and mildew.
Painting is a cheap way to increase your homes value. Pick a neutral earth tone for the widest appeal. Use a darker trim paint. If you are selling your home use the cheap contractor paint. It is true that the name brands will last longer and some are guaranteed not to fade, but when selling your home you don’t care if the house will need to be repainted in 10 years or if the paint will last 25 years.
A nice extra touch is freshly painted walkways. A “gunmetal grey” works well here. This can be done for per gallon plus an hours labor. This is often overlooked.
Front Door
Sand and refinish your front door. Use either a high gloss paint or clear coat on wood finished doors. Oil the hinges with a light oil. Replace the door nob, lock, peep hole and kick plate. These can be expensive but the extra money is well worth it. Sometimes it is possible to remove these items and polish them.
Bathrooms
Replace all shower curtains. The new plastic smell will give a “clean” aroma. These can be bought at a dollar store. Shower doors can be cleaned with a hard water cleaner. Make sure you follow the directions and completely rinse these products off.
Clean the wall tile with a soap scum remover. Use a stiff bristle brush to aid the chemicals. I know some products say to spray it on and leave it alone but that is not good enough. For walls with excessive soap scum spray the product on, allow it to soak in, then they reapply and scrub the walls with a stiff bristle brush. This will turn even the blackest grout joints white.
After cleaning the walls remove the caulking in the corners with a sharp razor knife. If the caulk is black from mold then spray a bleach solution. Allow everything to dry before recaulking.
Make sure that the sink and tub does not drip. If it does often all that is needed is a new O-ring. A home improvement store can help you with the proper part and often they will give you directions. Typically after turning the water off at the shut off valve all that is needed to be done is remove the handles, unsrew the valve, insert a new O-ring and reinstall.
A dripping toilet can often be repaired with a flapper valve. This is the rubber part at the bottom of the tank. It will snap into place or slide over the round tube in the center.
Tile Floors
Inspect the floor for cracked or missing grout. Missing grout should be regrouted. To repair a crack fill it with caulking. Use your finger to push the caulking into the crack. Wipe the excess off with a sponge. Sprinkle dry grout onto the caulking. Use your finger to push the grout into place.
The best way to make a tile floor look like new is to use grout stain. Start in a far corner and work your way out. Use a toothbrush to apply the stain. Remove any stain that gets on the tile before it dries. Haystack and Canvas are two of the most popular colors.
Other Floors
When selling a home extremely dirty carpet should be cleaned professionally. The machines that they use are extremely powerful. Furniture in the house should be placed so that the high traffic areas are hidden. Sometimes this means placing the furniture on the cleaner areas of the carpet.
Vinyl floors can have rips repaired. A kit can be bought at a home improvement store. Small areas like the foyer can be tiled without spending much money. Cheap tile will run about 50 cents per foot. Most small foyers are 9 to 12 square feet. Cheep thinset is about per bag. A small bag of grout will cost about .
Kitchen
A kitchen remodel does not have to be expensive. Wipe the cabnets down with Acetone. A new faucet will stand out and cost less than . This will also guaranty it does not drip when showing your home. If the area under the sink has water damage a new base can be installed with “Hardy Backer”. This 1/4 inch thick board is easily cut with a razor knife and cost about per sheet. The kitchen light should be bright. Consider installing a florescent light.
Other Cheap fixes
Contractor flat paint can be bought for to per gallon. Replacing any mini blinds is a good idea. Spray the outside of the air conditioning unit and duct work with bleach. Perform a simple air conditioning maintenance. Each bedroom should have a ceiling fan/light combo installed. The small flush mounted models are less than each. Check each electrical outlet. If any do not work then turn the electricity off and replace it. Check every light bulb. If one is blown out a perspective buying might not notice. If several are not working they are sure to notice.
With a minimal out of pocket expense you can receive a maximum return on your most important investment. Some of the most important improvements do not cost much if any money. After doing all of these repairs you will wonder why you are selling your home to begin with.

lowes home improvement question by Lovely Smile: Why Lowes Home Improvement Have Thin Plastic Bags Lol?
My boyfriend and I always shop at Lowe’s in Virginia in the Richmond area. They have these very thin plastic bags that, when putting sharp hand tools and nails in them, it started to tear holes in the bag. I mean very very thin plastic like the plastic wrap lol. Still not strong when double bagged. I guess they trying to be cheap ordering these kinds of cheap flimsy bags. Lowe’s should have stronger bags perhaps like paper bags or, one of those re-usable bags lol. No hardware stores should have cheap plastic bags. It’s a hardware store! Use common sense lol! I just want to share this with you all on yahoo answers.:)

All of the stores (hardware, discount, department, etc.) are furnishing cheap plastic bags. It’s getting so pathetic that before long, looking like a bag lady will be fashionable because people will start using their own bags.

Answer by Kiley
I would go to Home Depot before ever going to Lowe’s. I know quite a bit about home improvement and every time I ever went into Lowe’s they told me things I either already knew or things that were very wrong. They never seem to know anything about what I am looking for so I either just go to Home Depot or ask my father, its the best way to get answers for what I need.

Honeywell 2092 Quality of Plastic Safes,
This safe is anything but safe!
First of all, let me say it looked like the shipper dropped the box during transit. Landing on a corner. When I opened the box I was immediately aware there was a problem.
The door is made of a plastic material filled with fireproofing material which was leaking out of a split seam in the outer plastic material. The seem is visible all the way around the door of the safe.
If someone intended on damaging this unit it would be extremely easy to do so. They could use a screwdriver to pry the outer plastic apart and you would have a mess on your hands.
This unit was returned for full refund and I purchased an all steel fireproof safe from another company. Cost for new was only slightly higher and I have double the capacity and all steel construction.
If weight is critical and you don’t mind poor quality construction, buy the Honeywell safe.

|Beware upon receipt of item,
This safe would not open using either the combination lock or the key. We called Honeywell to problem solve. We were told to use a “butter knife” to break the seal. It didn’t work. I ordered a replacement and five days after receiving the original item it finally opened. I was thankfully able to cancel the delivery of the new safe. Since that time the safe opens easily. Another issue is the strong chemical smell in the safe. It is necessary to air it out for at least a week to minimize the odor.

|Safe?,
Yes mine also came with a dent in the corner. You can’t bolt this down so it isn’t the safest safe. Find something else.
